From a one-hectare (circa 2.5 acres) pilot hemp growing project started in 2012, business partners Daniel Bajas and Natacha Leban have developed a flourishing localized hemp value chain producing high-quality products, hand-made the old fashion way. Good Foods’ branded product lineup includes cold pressed hemp oil, chocolates with hemp seeds and bee pollen; honeys with hemp-flower extract and shelled seeds, and fruit-flavored teas. The company also offers basic bulk foods such as whole and hulled seeds, and hemp flour.
Monika Brümmer • Cannabric, Spain & Morocco
Monika Brümmer is an architect specialising in hemp building, ecological and bioclimatic buildings, historic restoration and rehabilitation of traditional cave dwellings. She is the inventor of Cannabric, hemp-based building blocks which have been manufactured at her facility in Granada since 1999. She is also a globally recognised consultant in hemp and other eco construction. She works in partnership with Abdellatif Adebibe of the Moroccan Confederation of Associations for the Development of the Senhaja Rif Region, in a broad initiative to improve living conditions and capitalize on the economic potential of the region’s cannabis straw to retrofit older structures and for new builds made from hempcrete. Hana Gabrielova • Hempoint, Czech Republic
Euro hemp veteran Hana Gabrielova is CEO, Hempoint Ltd., one of Europe’s pioneering and most innovative hemp food companies. A consultant, Hana is a widely recognized expert in everything from hemp farming to patient focused certification (PFC) for medical cannabis, through her affiliation with the Prague-based International Cannabis and Cannabinoids Institute. Piotr Jastrzębski • Podlaskie Konopie, Poland
Piotr Jastrzębski and his brother Marcin farm, process and sell hemp derivatives from their vertically integrated hemp operation in northeastern Poland, picking up a family tradition that was temporarily lost in the second half of the 20th century. Their company, Podlaskie Konopie, is also active in Poland’s natural building scene, conducting hempcrete building workshops and frequently appearing at natural building trade shows.
Petra Rusch • Cannamoda, Germany
Petra Rusch first got started in hemp clothing design in the 1990s with a children’s fashion line. She is the founder of the German firm Cannamoda, which is working toward a future in which raw material can be more broadly sourced closer to the company’s Sachsenheim, Germany operations near Stuttgart. She sees a more close-to-home supply helping to align hemp-made fashions price-wise versus those made from more traditional materials, especially considering hemp’s comfort, durability and eco-friendliness. The husband and wife team of Dhiraj and Nivedita Shah, Shah Hemp Inno-Ventures (SHIV) are maximizing the value of Nepalese hemp “wild crop,” naturally occurring hemp that is abundant in mountainous Nepal. SHIV makes fashion accessories from hemp textile, hemp oils, and is involved in a project to build homes in Nepal after the massive earthquake that struck the country in 2015. Haïle Selassé Tefari is the driving force behind Hemp Service International (HSI), an international wholesaler and retailer of cannaromatherapy and other CBD products. He is a former trade analyst at Newedge Financial, a major Futures Commission Merchant with operations on the New York Mercantile Exchange. He is also general secretary of the Association of Ethiopian Unity which promotes ancestral Ethiopian culture.
